How assurance of salvation leads to answer prayers

<p>1 John 5:13-15 was written to believers and it is such a powerful encouragement that I want to share with you. If you have ever doubted your salvation, these verses made bold statements for you not to do that. </p>

<p><strong>I’ve written this letter to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you will&nbsp;<em>be assured and</em>&nbsp;know without a doubt that you have eternal life. Since we have this confidence, we can also have great boldness before him, for if we ask anything agreeable to his will, he will hear us.&nbsp;And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we also know that we have obtained the requests we ask of him.</strong></p>

<p>You could not be born again, if you do not put trust in the name of Jesus and what He represented and has done for us. So, if you have made Jesus your Lord and Saviour, this text says that you must be assured and know that you have what? Eternal Life. Eternal life! What is it?</p>

<p>Eternal life - also called "zoe" is the life of God Himself. This life is called "eternal" because it is from eternity which is past to eternity which is to come. It is an unending life of God revealed in Jesus Christ, our Messiah. But this life of God was imparted to the sinner the very moment he/she believes the testimony and truth of God about Jesus and through the agency of the Holy Spirit, the sinner thus believing this truth, then becomes a child of God.</p>

<p>The child of God now possesses the same quality of life that God Himself has. The life of God which is in the believer is an unsevered part of the life which eternally was and eternally is, in Christ Jesus. It is the same life in Jesus that is also in the believer: Head and members, Vine and branches. That is the eternal life that you possess. This is an unending life. Jesus describes this eternal life as "knowing God and knowing Jesus" in John 17:3 - this means eternal life is not just moving from death to life but the continuous experience of the quality of life that God Himself enjoys!</p>

<p>1 John 5:14 now says: <strong>Since we have this confidence, we can also have great boldness before him</strong>. What confidence is the Holy Spirit referring to here? It is the confidence that we have eternal life. The assurance of salvation that we have gives us boldness to come to His presence and make our requests known unto Him - and thus requesting what we desire, we have the assurance that we have received ALL that we ask of Him.</p>

<p>If you don’t have the assurance that you are saved, how could you have the assurance of answered prayers? The two are linked together. If I could not trust God’s testimony about my salvation, how could I trust Him to answer me when my marriage, children, career or neighbourhood needs help? 1 John 5:13-15 expresses that same sentiment. Beloved, if you are born again, be assured that God says you have eternal life.</p>

<p>If you believe that Jesus is the Christ, then you are begotten of God. Not only that, you have overcome the world because of the One who lives in you who already overcame the world. Again, you see that the battle you are engaged in or the one you are about to face is already won. The fight is in your favour. The end has been predicted. The verdict has already been pronounced in your favour. Why? Because you are possessed by The Overcomer Himself. Imagine fighting a battle that has already been won? Do you face life with this kind of mindset? How might that change your life knowing you will overcome the present challenge? (1 John 5:4-5). Reign today!!!</p>
