heroism. I remember one that I watched recently of a mum whose daughter was kidnapped when on vacation and the daughter was on the verge of being sold to prostitution. This woman, single-handedly pursued the kidnappers and did all she could to get her daughter back - and she did! Her steadfast and unwavering nature is to be commended and it paid off for her.

Steadfastness describes an attitude that is resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering. It is a trait required in every enterprise to succeed. No matter what you believe in today, it will be tested and it is your steadfastness that will help to determine whether you enjoy the life you desire or not. Make no mistake, nothing that is of worth in this life can be achieved without this impeccable attitude. This trait is required in raising Godly children, having an enduring marital life, becoming a success at work etc.

Enduring till the end and obtaining the crown of life requires a steadfast attitude. To live as overcomers in this world, we must be steadfast in our faith in Jesus. In Col 2:5, the word steadfastness has its root in “a foundation or support”. This means we must be firmly rooted in our faith in Jesus if we don’t want to be deceived in the coming days. Since deception is Satan’s primary tool of winning, it is by being steadfast in our faith in Jesus that we overcome his lies.

One way to maintain your steadfastness is to be sober and vigilant (1 Pet 5:8). A person who is sober is on the look-out with his/her senses on guard. A foundation of soberness is to never forget that if you are born again, God lives inside of you. A departure from this foundational truth will lead to deception.

Father, I thank you that Jesus Christ demonstrated steadfastness to us when He died on the cross. He never reneged on His life’s goal to redeem us. When I think of what He did as The Son of Man, I am encouraged that His Spirit in me empowers me to be steadfast in faith. Today, I receive counsel on what to do. I commit my “baby steps goals” into your hands and I trust that you will enable me to make progress in Jesus name.
