You have the life of God in you

My salvation does not hinge on my emotions. I have an official record. I have the Word of God:

The purpose of 1 John 5:13-15 is to give us assurance of eternal life. This assurance or security we have about our salvation then gives us confidence in prayers. Our prayers could not be answered if we constantly doubt our salvation. If you are not sure of your standing before God, you will lack the confidence to approach him in prayer.

The aim of Satan and purveyors of religious’ control mechanism is to make you think that your salvation is not secured - this is achieved through propaganda, deception and malicious slandering of God’s name, His character and His faithfulness in our hearts.

“These things have I written unto you, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, even unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God. And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.” ‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:13-15‬ ‭ASV‬‬.

What are “these things” that prove we have eternal life now? In v11-12, we hear God’s record or testimony about this and it is this: He that has the son has (as a present tense reality) eternal life.

So if you have the Son, you possess eternal life right NOW. This is a truth that is worth believing and pondering. If you don’t believe this truth, you make God a liar.

It is instructive therefore that we don’t promote doctrine to make people doubt the fact that they possess eternal life. Why? Because such a doctrine creates an atmosphere of uncertainty that impair the believers’ ability to become intimate with God.

John 5:24 reads, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."

John 20:31 reads, “These have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name."

In John 15:3, Jesus told the disciples, you are already cleaned because of the words I spoke to you

So, from the foregoing, what should your attitude be? Carry a consciousness of someone who is ALREADY saved. This attitude will affect your every behaviour. When we we are Christ-conscious, it builds intimacy with God and ensures that we produce fruits of righteousness.

2 Per 1:5-11 gives us practical steps we can take as believers to confirm (that is, prove) our calling and election in Jesus. Read the text below:

“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

What these verses are saying are that:

- Faith is the beginning of our walk with God

- Fruits of the spirit must accompany our faith

- If we don’t produce and abound in fruits of the spirit, we are not conscious of the truth that we have already been saved

- Holy Spirit wont make me produce these fruits. He needs my cooperation

- The extent to which we demonstrate the fruit of the spirits, will the rich welcome we get when we get to heaven.

So how does this relate with assurance of salvation? 2 Pet 1:4 says we have the nature of God already - which aligns with 1 John 5:13 that statEs that believers do have eternal life.

But unless you have an assurance of your new nature in Christ, you can’t be effective in submitting to the Holy Spirit to help you produce the fruits of the Spirit. Essentially, assurance of salvation by faith makes us embrace the work The Holy Spirit is doing in us to produce fruits of righteousness. If you don’t have this assurance, Satan will plague you with so much guilt you will be unproductive for God.
