Killing the Sacred Cow

<p>One time I had an argument with someone regarding one of the laws of Moses. He seemed pretty convinced that if you had a tattoo, you could not go to heaven. I let this stew for a while before I asked him if it was possible to follow all the over 600 laws of Moses. Taken aback by my question, he asked me to explain what I meant. Of course, I asked him if women were sinning by wearing trousers, or if women going through their monthly cycle sinned anytime they entered the church and even mounted the altar to minister in one capacity of another.<br>I took my time to explain how men pick and choose what part of the Bible to follow and what to discard for their personal beliefs which might be contrary to God's agenda for man. By now, he was tired, so he simply told me to go on and commit adultery as a way to end the argument. I countered by reminding him that that would not reflect the love of God or love for my neighbour, as Christ instructed us.</p>

<p>Some of these laws might have been thrown at you too, and you might have lived in fear as a result. For example, have you believed that if you didn't dress a certain way, you would go to hell, or that if you did not sow into your pastor, you were offending God and therefore were marked for doom? Have you ever tried to challenge some of these doctrines? What was the reaction? Did they say you were not a believer? Did they start treating you like a heathen when you asked questions? What would Jesus do? How did He respond to questions from His followers?</p>

<p>These laws are the doctrines of men that have been coated in convincing Christians and induce unholy fear in God's children. These are sacred cows<br>Get this; God wants your love and reverence. He sure does not want you to be afraid of Him, because what would that achieve? You would never know Him, and you would never have koinonia with Him. And if you don't have either of these, how can you truly worship Him? Might as well replace "worship in spirit and in truth" to "worship in fear."</p>

<p>What should we then do with these sacred cows? We must replace them with the doctrine of God, which is shrouded in the mystery of His love.</p>
