”For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death.“
â€â€Romans‬ â€8‬:â€2‬ â€AMPC‬‬

The word “law” is defined as a binding custom or practice of a community: a rule of conduct or action prescribed or formally recognised as binding or enforced by a controlling authority

So if I say “the law of the UK forbids murder,” it means the law that belongs to the UK as the controlling authority (and which is binding on its citizens) forbids murder and thus governs the actions and conduct of the citizens of the UK concerning murder.

According to Romans 8:2, there is a law of the Spirit of life which has set us free from the law of sin and death. We are delivered from the controlling authority of sin and death and placed under the controlling authority of the Spirit of Life. What does that mean? It means what dominates, rules, and governs our thinking and conduct is the Spirit of Life.

In what way are we freed from sin and death? To what extent is our freedom from the power of sin and death? The Greek word used here means to be liberated or exempted from moral, ceremonial, or mortal liability. We are EXEMPTED from any liabilities that sin and death could bring. Let that sink in.

You have been exempted from sin, death, and their attendant woes. Let this truth be the foundation of your belief system, and it WILL produce life and peace for you (Rom 8:6).
