Day 12: Peace with God

At times when we have this feeling of nobody loving us, it's either because we are in a crowd of people and nobody's paying attention to us; we get into a new company, and we're all alone by ourselves. So, the thought that says nobody loves me is predicated upon the fact that we are expecting love from other people, and there's nothing wrong with that, because obviously, as you know, we are all a product of love. We desire love. We love to give love. Likewise, we love to receive love. When we don't feel loved, we either interpret the world through a loveless lens, or we might wrongly think that something is wrong with us. Love is the most powerful emotion on earth. I'm yet to meet a person who does not like to be loved. If you were to meet a self-professed sadist, deep inside, that person still desires to be loved.

However, before I can depend on the love of others, I must start with self-love. Self-love means I love you to the extent to which I love myself. Self-love though may be tainted from the eyes of a loved person, but God's love is a bedrock that shatters the feelings of rejection and shame that we may feel when love is spawned. God loves you even if you don't love yourself. God loves you even if you don't love others. God loves you even when you feel like nobody loves you. His love remains the elixir of life.

The word love means value. This means you determine the worth of a thing by the price you are willing to pay for it. Guess what God did when God paid the price for you? The value that God placed on you is the value of His son. John 3:16 says, for God so loved the world that he gave His only-begotten son. Now, remember, you are a royal priesthood, which means you are royalty. Don't think of yourself as less than that. God lavishes his love on you right from the beginning. 1 John 3:1 says, “what a marvellous thing that God has showered his love upon us and that we should be called the children of God”. So how do we pull down this thought that says nobody loves me? Number one, I want you to look in the mirror and say I love me, and what is more? God loves me more. Because you can only love others when you truly love yourself.

Now, the other thing I want you to do is to celebrate your uniqueness and your gifting. You are an original. You don't need to be like somebody else. Psalm 139:14 says you are fearfully and wonderfully made. That is precious and worth loving. Now, when the thought of nobody loves me comes up with its torrent of guilt and pity. I want you to flip the thought and say I am God's masterpiece. God took special care and tender love in creating me. Thus, remember to always keep affirming to yourself your worth.
