Romans 6:4 TPT says: “Sharing in his death by our baptism means that we were co-buried with him, so that when the Father’s glory raised Christ from the dead, we were also raised with him. We have been co-resurrected with him so that we could be empowered to walk in the freshness of new life.” Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭4‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Water baptism is meant to make the reality of our union with Christ so real we wouldn’t forget about it. When we get immersed in the water, it is type of our being buried with Christ. The water represented the grave in which our old Adamic nature got buried. When we were raised out of the water, it signifies that we have been resurrected with Jesus. We now have a new life - the life of God Himself!

You can’t share in His life (be born again), if you have not shared in His death! In our union with Christ, not only did our old life died and got buried with Jesus, we were also resurrected with Him so that we can experience the new (born again) life.

The fact that Jesus literally became my sin is beyond my comprehension (2 Cor 5:21) but it should not be beyond my experience. The fact that He became my sin means that I do not live as a sinner saved by grace. The sinner is dead. He died on a cross over two thousand years ago. Freedom from sin, and from the power and consequences of it, is the essential truth for living the resurrected life in Christ now!

The old me and all of my past issues died. He really is dead! I went to his funeral…it is called water baptism. I am dead to sin!
